  1. What has God been teaching you, so far, throughout this first couple of weeks since the coronavirus scare started to shut down some things?

 

  1. Read John 13:1-5
  • What is one thing that caught your attention in this passage?
  • Why would it be so unique that Jesus would be the one to wash feet?
  • Why do you think Jesus did this, after knowing what was coming?

 

  1. Read John 13:6-17
  • What is one thing that caught your attention in this passage?
  • Read Matthew 20:28; Matthew 26:26-28; John 6:70
  • Why do you think it was so important that Jesus’ followers accepted this act of service from Him?
  • How do you think you would have first responded as a disciple?
  • How significant was this, in that it happened during the last supper?
  • If Jesus’ point of us washing feet was to humbly serve each other, what is one way you can do that now and in the future?

 

  1. Read John 13:18-30
  • What is one thing that caught your attention in this passage?
  • Why do you think Jesus allowed Judas to remain there for so long and to be the treasurer of the group; and why would it be so hurtful?
  • Why do you think the disciples didn’t understand about Judas, even after Jesus revealed a hint to John?

  • How do you think Jesus was glorified (lifted up) through His coming suffering and death?

  • Why is it important and instructive to see Peter’s prideful remark challenged and debunked by Jesus Himself?

Prayer time

**Families: for some family fun and a great teachable moment, have a foot washing ceremony. Have the parents wash the children’s feet first, then the kids do the same with the parents. Consider purchasing and playing the song: The Basin and the Towel by Michael Card.

Jesus Christ humbly served His followers (vs.1-5)

Follow the example of Jesus by serving one another in humility (vs.6-17; 6:70; Matthew 20:28; 26:26-28)

Jesus mourned and revealed that a follower would betray Him (vs.18-30)

Jesus reveals His glory will come through suffering and death, and that it will be later that His followers will also suffer, die and go be with Him in Heaven (vs.31-33,36; 15:12,13; Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 22:39,40)

Follow the example of Jesus by loving one another (vs.34,35)

Jesus challenges Peter and reveals that he will disown Him 3 times (vs.37,38)
